New Website Coming Soon

Big changes are coming soon to this site!  A new design and layout are in the process, so check back with us frequently to see all the changes. In the mean time, check out all the great information below.

Spotlight - Pimag Waterfall

Right along with cleaner air, each of us can benefit from drinking better water. Did you know that 55-60% of of our body weight is made up of water? It is an essential part of our existence.

Although our drinking water is filtered and cleaned, there may still be more there than meets the eye. Tap water may include substances we are unaware of: chlorine, sediment, pesticides and medication waste. Do you really want you and your family to bring those things into your body?

This water filtration system will clean out these impurities and make our drinking water safer, cleaner and better tasting! This filtration system sits right on your counter top for easy access to healthy refreshing water.

Also available in a sports bottle for busy schedules and on the go filtration. A great alternative to bottled water.

Spotlight - Pro 5 Air Filter

Have you ever noticed how when one person in your family gets sick, it seems to spread like wildfire to everyone in the household? That is often the case at my home, and as I already mentioned, I hate being sick. Much of that illness is spread through the air in our homes as we cough, sneeze or even talk. Being in close spaces (our homes) facilitates this sharing of germs and other airborne illnesses.

In addition, we are exposed to all kinds of nastiness from the air in our communities. Many of us suffer from allergies, asthma, and other breathing conditions.

The human body is completely dependent on oxygen, so holding our breath until the air clears is not an option. Our bodies are designed to filter the air we breathe, but only to a certain extent. When we breathe in air that carries germs or harmful substances, those same particles are carried into our lungs and from there throughout our circulatory system. I don't know about you, but that is a less than pleasant thought for me and my lungs.

On the Rise

Thankfully through modern science, we have nearly eradicated many of the diseases that used to threaten the well-being of society. In its place we seem to have an increased appearance of: autism, ADD/ADHD, cancer, depression, diabetes, asthma, hypertension (high blood pressure), and a myriad of other health concerns.

Although there isn't a magic wand or "cure" for all of these problems, I think there are ways we can make improvements. I can't help wondering how many of these health concerns are brought about by the things we are exposed to each day in our modern environment, whether through food, water, air, chemicals, medications, pollutants, etc.  Arguably some of these conditions are not new, just better diagnosed than they used to be. However, I feel these conditions are more prevelant than ever before.

What if we were able to improve the quality of some of these factors in our own home? How would we, and those we care about benefit?

The solutions to these problems are varied and multi-dimensional, but upcoming posts will discuss some ways to make improvements in our home environment, and in turn our families.

Healthy Child - Healthy Home

This is a short but powerful video that really opened up my eyes. Prior to watching this, I hadn't given much thought to factors we are exposed to. As a mom, it was concerning to see the kinds of things my kids are exposed to each day. It has helped me think more about the health and well being of my family, and what I can do to improve it.
To an extent, this is part of our everyday world, and aspects of it may be out of our control. However, I think we can take steps to minimize our exposure, and what better place to start than in our own homes!

Spotlight - Kenko Powerband

It is hard to decide which product to spotlight first, with so many of my favorites to choose from. I chose the powerband because it is so diverse in the ways it can be used. The powerband comes in bracelet and necklace form, each designed with three different properties/technologies (magnetic technology, far-infrared energy, and negative ions). The powerbands are light weight, durable and moisture wicking. Powerbands have a unique clasp that will allows you to connect multiple together, and offers flexibility in how they are used.

Depending on the part of the body it is worn on the powerband may help with: balance, allergies, asthma, headaches, arthritis, ankle pain, or wrist pain.

Spotlight

Nikken has so many great products, each with a distinct purpose and use. I decided it would be beneficial to periodically highlight these products and the ways they have benefited me or others. If you have a specific product you would like to see spotlighted, email me and let me know.

Benefits of Exercise

I think most of us would agree that exercise has a lot of benefits. Here is just a few:

Benefits of regular physical activity

No. 1: Exercise controls weight
No. 2: Exercise combats health conditions and diseases
No. 3: Exercise improves mood
                                                         No. 4: Exercise boosts energy
No. 5: Exercise promotes better sleep
No. 6: Exercise can be fun

The bottom line on exercise:

Exercise and physical activity are a great way to feel better, gain health benefits and have fun. As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. If you want to lose weight or meet specific fitness goals, you may need to exercise more. Remember to check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially if you have any health concerns.

Energy to Exercise

I have always been a believer in the importance of exercise, but I admit I haven't always been a follower of that concept. Somehow I found it quite easy to rationalize that I was too tired or too busy to exercise. Although it has taken time and dedication, I can now say that I exercise on a regular basis. What changed? A few things actually.

Why Magnetic Technology?

I'm sure many of you are wondering what benefits magnetic technology has to offer. We live in a fast-paced world that is constantly exposing us to electronics. The use of electronic devices diminishes our exposure to the Earth’s natural magnetic field. All this exposure affects our body, maybe in ways we may not even realize. Magnetic technology can help restore our bodies to a natural, more energized state.

How much is too much?

Let's talk about cost, because most things in life aren't free. Again this goes back to our western minded ideas, but I think sometimes we find it difficult to spend money on preventive health care needs. I know I have struggled with this same idea in the past. Somehow it seems more "cost effective" to wait until we are sick or in pain, and then go spend the money on what is needed. We spend money on doctor visits/co-pays, medications, lab tests, surgical procedures, etc.

Finding Balance

I truly feel that balance is best achieved with a mixture of modern science, and holistic approaches. Depending on the situation/condition one may be more appropriate than the other, or maybe both can be used simultaneously. For example, if I've just experienced a traumatic injury, I want a really good medical team at my side. If I'm suffering from chronic pain, maybe there is a natural remedy that will be better for my body than taking pain medications.

Western Minds

It seems as though the culture around you has much to do with the way you interpret life. Many of us here in the west share the same mindset: You go to the doctor once you get sick! I'm not here to say if that is right or wrong. That is how I was raised, and it is definitely a part of the culture where I live.

Health and Wellness

It was interesting in my nursing studies, that we only spent one real day focusing on wellness. Most of the time we focused on how to care for patients once they became sick, or in less than optimal health. As important as that care is, I think we are missing a key element. Why wait to get sick if you can prevent it in the first place? I don't know about anyone else, but I personally don't enjoy being sick. I'm trying to approach life from a different perspective, and that is maintaining wellness!
